Oak Worktops
Norfolk Oak design and manufacture the finest Oak kitchen worktops in the world. Made from Furniture Grade Oak, our solid Oak worktops add a defining look to kitchen impossible to match. The Oak for our worktops comes from the Northern Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania. Oak from this region has the most beautiful grain which stands out wonderfully. In sunlight it often looks as though it has golden flecks running through the grain. With a tight grain and low colour variation, it is significantly superior to European Oak.
To make a Oak Worktop as beautiful yet functional as this demands energy, patience and above all attention to detail. Using an incredibly strong waterproof glue which far exceeds European standards for example. Many of these key details are hidden away, but some are obvious. Like making our worktops 45 mm thick. Apart from adding enormous structural stability, it creates an instant feeling of luxury and durability. Quite a useful attribute for the hardest working part of your kitchen.
Our Oak worktops come in three different styles; (please see the individual style page for more details)
Single Wide Stave Oak Worktops
Our Single Wide Stave Oak Worktops are made from long planks which run the entire length of the worktop and are edge glued. Rarely longer than 3 metres (as finding clean lumber this long without defects is very difficult), they are available in most sizes and almost any width.
Two Join Traditional Oak Plank Worktops
A Two Join Oak Worktop is made from long planks which may have a maximum of two finger joints per length, and then edge glued. In effect it is midway between a Classic butchers block style and a wide single stave style worktop.
Classic Oak Butcher's Block Worktops
Our Classic Oak Worktop is made from oak staves which are finger jointed (giving an immensely strong and stable join) and then edge glued to form a beautiful worktop.
For prices of the different styles of worktop, please go to the page for the style you are interested in. For a rough comparison, a 3000 mm x 636 mm oak worktop would cost the following;
Classic Butcher's Block £ 315 Two Join Traditional Plank £ 467
Single Wide Stave £ 681
(All Prices include VAT)
Last year 197,000 acres of new hardwood forest was planted in North America - around four million trees. That's more than double the number felled for lumber; an outstanding example of positive environmental practice. American White Oak accounted for roughly half that. |
